There are many benefits to expanded scooter use, including an ease on traffic congestion, fewer greenhouse gas emissions, less gas use in general, and less demand for already sparse parking spaces. The more data and information we have, the more it makes sense to build the necessary infrastructure to expand scooter use. And, with rising gas prices, scooter use is on the rise.
Councilmember Drago and I are currently working with the Seattle Department of Transportation to create a trial program to expand the number of scooter parking spaces on the street with a discounted rate to park. However, our office currently lacks critical information in regard to how many scooters we have in Seattle, where they are, and where they park.
That's why we have created an interactive online map for the people of Seattle to send us photos of parking locations for scooters around Seattle, as well as all the great scooter hang outs. If you have a picture of your scooter, and maybe even yourself, in your favorite scooter parking location send it to us and we'll post it up on the big map.
All pictures should be emailed, as an attachment, to me at sally.clark@seattle.gov with "Scooter Parking Location" in the subject line. We'll update the map periodically with your photos.
We hope to use this map as a tool in finding the best locations to provide parking spaces for scooters. We’re looking forward to seeing all your pictures.
