Budget Committee
Friends,
Designing a city budget is a mighty undertaking. It requires a great deal of effort, a lot of time and - done correctly - careful ordering of priorities. It works best when there is thoughtful and constructive input from citizens.
It is with this thought in mind that we created this web site. The goal is to help citizens better understand the city's budget and the sometimes incomprehensible process the City Council goes through to arrive at the final product. Among other things the s web site offers tips on how to successfully impact the process by talking with councilmembers and speaking at public hearings.
In a city the size of Seattle, the actual budget document is the size of a large city phone book. Daunting for most, but, for those who care about public policy, it provides a candid picture of the city's priorities. It is a road map for the future, the ultimate statement of where the city is headed.
I hope that you will feel empowered to join us on the journey. Passage of the budget is too important to leave to a handful of us. It takes a village to make the difficult choices and steer us in the right direction. That village is you.
My regards,
Jean Godden
