Office of the City Clerk Legislative Department
The Office of the City Clerk supports open government and the democratic process by preserving and maximizing public access to the City's official and historical records, promoting City-wide compliance with records retention law, and facilitating the legislative process.
The City Clerk's web site allows online searching for legislation, past and present. Users can search and browse Council Bills/Ordinances,
Resolutions, Clerk Files,
as well as City Council related materials such as Minutes,
Agendas, and the significant Vote Log. The Seattle Municipal Code (SMC) is available online as is the City Charter.
The Seattle Municipal Archives identifies and preserves historically valuable City records and arranges and describes those records to maximize their research usefulness and accessibility.
What's New?
- Interactive Annexation Tool: From the time of its initial incorporation until 1975, the City of Seattle underwent 42 annexations, with two more added since then. This interactive annexation tool is an online resource that visually displays areas annexed from 1869 through 1975. Language used is taken directly from the legislation.
